Some Questions from Jesus

Jesus asked many questions to engage his listeners and test the understanding of his followers? He also used questions as a way to introduce a topic of conversation or solicit specific information.

Please read each passage where these verses are located for the context, but by simply reading through this list of questions, I believe you will see several different applications you may also be able to apply as you teach, present, and talk to others.

Questions Jesus Asked

• Matthew 5:46, 47 - If you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
• Matthew 6:25 - Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
• Matthew 6:26 - Are you not of more value than they?
• Matthew 6:27 - Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
• Matthew 6:28 - Why do you worry about clothing?
• Matthew 6:30 - Will He not much more clothe you?

• Matthew 7:3, 4 - Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
• Matthew 7:9, 10 - What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
• Matthew 8:26 - Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?
• Matthew 9:4 - Why do you think evil in your hearts?
• Matthew 9:5 - Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’?
• Matthew 9:15 - Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?
• Matthew 9:28 - Do you believe that I am able to do this?
• Matthew 10:29 - Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin?
• Matthew 11:7-9 - What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? But what did you go out to see? A prophet?
• Matthew 12:3-5 - Have you not read what David did when he was hungry … How he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
• Matthew 12:11, 12 - What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep?
• Matthew 12:26, 27 - How then will his kingdom stand? If I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out?
• Matthew 12:29 - How can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man?
• Matthew 12:48 - Who is My mother and who are My brothers?
• Matthew 13:51 - Have you understood all these things?
• Matthew 14:31 - O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
• Matthew 15:3 - Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?
• Matthew 15:16 - Are you also still without understanding?
• Matthew 15:34 - How many loaves do you have?
• Matthew 16:8-11 - O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the 5,000 and how many baskets you took up? Nor the seven loaves of the 4,000 and how many large baskets you took up? How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?
• Matthew 16:13 - Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?
• Matthew 16:15 - Who do you say that I am?
• Matthew 17:17 - O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?
• Matthew 17:25 - What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?
• Matthew 18:12 - What do you think? If a man has 100 sheep, and 1 of them goes astray, does he not leave the 99 and go to the mountains to seek the 1 that is straying?
• Matthew 19:4, 5 - Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?

• Matthew 20:21 - What do you wish?
• Matthew 20:22 - Are you able to the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
• Matthew 20:32 - What do you want Me to do for you?
• Matthew 21:16 - Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise’?
• Matthew 21:25 - The baptism of John - where was it from? From heaven or from men?
• Matthew 21:28 - What do you think?
• Matthew 21:31 - Which of the two did the will of his father?
• Matthew 21:40 - When the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?
• Matthew 21:42 - Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
• Matthew 22:18 - Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?
• Matthew 22:20 - Whose image and inscription is this?
• Matthew 22:31, 32 - Have you not read what was spoke to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?
• Matthew 22:42 What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?
• Matthew 22:43-45 - How then does David in the Spirit call Him, ‘Lord,’ saying; ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’? If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?
• Matthew 23:17, 19 - Which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? Which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
• Matthew 23:33 How can you escape the condemnation of hell?
• Matthew 24:2 - Do you not see all these things?
• Matthew 24:45 - Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
• Matthew 26:40 - Could you not watch with Me one hour?
• Matthew 26:45 - Are you still sleeping and resting?
• Matthew 26:50 - Friend, why have you come?
• Matthew 26:53, 54 - Do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that is must happen thus?
• Matthew 26:55 - Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me?
• Matthew 27:46 - My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
